Have you found the mouse entry points yet?
Mice are incontinent, and dribble urine continuously, and they use the scent marking in negotiating their way around.
The urine fluoresces under black light.
It might give you an idea where they're getting in.

Nothing last night.

Jean heard noises in the loft last night, so that's where all the new traps will be going.

Should get some in today's post.

What is black light ? (I've googled it now, plenty of inexpensive devices on Ebay. Thanks for the tip)

If they're stamping around in the loft you could have a hole in one of your soffets or even a slipped roof tile.

I ordered a slightly more expensive one because it should get delivered sooner.

Thanks for the suggestions Chris. :)

Before we moved in to our house we had builders in for 6 months. One of things we ummed and ahhed over was whether to reroof at the time. It was okay but looked a bit dodgy. We went for it and later the builder said it was the right decision. Apart from the tiling being a bit dodgy there were 7 or 8 rats' nests up there between tiles and underdrawing he reckoned, though I suspect they were more likely squirrels. There were signs a cat had been sent up there at some point though! Fingers crossed it's just mice Philip! :-D

Cheers.

The postman has just delivered two more traps, so up in the loft I go.

The two loft traps had the fake kitkat carefully removed last night. I made the mistake of placing the choco on top of the holding area, rather than pressing it down firmly.

Traps now re stocked, one with a peanut coated with peanut butter, and one with choco firmly packed.

Kitchen traps were (as far as I can tell) unmolested.

It will be interesting to see how things are when the black light torch comes next week.

I put 2 of the old style wooden traps (came today) in the loft earlier to join the 2 plastic ones, and when I checked at 5:20pm I'd caught 1 in the plastic trap using the peanut + peanut butter.

The trap crushed his/her head so now in the garden awaiting a predator.

I feel a bit sad about it, but they have to be got rid of.

This time of year there will be plenty of scavengers with young mouths to feed.

Last night, about 12:30 am, I was woken by a commotion seemingly from the loft.

This morning I checked, and a mouse, in the plastic trap, with his/her head clamped tight in the jaws, had tried to run away. It didn't get far. What a way to go. :(

The last dead one hasn't been eaten yet, so i'll put this one somewhere different.

No more mouse news thank goodness. :D

Still got 7 traps around the house and loft, just in case.

PS Just for Chris, the coffin maker has been furloughed.

I heard a few "noises" in the loft last night, and just been up there to find 5 dead mice.

The coffin maker has a job again.
