Do any of you chaps have experience of this;

My current tariff arrangement is up in a couple of months so I've started to scout out the available deals and it looks like it's worth exploring further.

I was with the Coop for electricity but I was swapped to Octopus.

I've been with them for a while but never heard of this "Agile" business.

Like it says on the website, its a beta service so maybe not widely publicised. The starting premise looks good, your rate is set daily based on wholesale rates and there appear to be real advantages to switching to using energy overnight. I'll be reading it properly later.

We went with Bulb, which sounds similar but is 100% renewables.

They've been very good so far..

I've had a quick look at the Bulb site and it looks good from a renewables perspective but i couldn't see anything similar to the Octopus agile service - do you have a pointer?

Not, sure it represents a green alternative. They’re paying you to take pressure off the grid at peak times. Your consumption no doubt will remain the same. However, very worth knowing about as my next car will be all electric which I’ll need to charge mainly at night, so thanks for the heads up. A no brainier for me. Receive payment and subsidy (16 subsidy years still to go) for electricity I generate from my solar panels in the daytime and get paid for using electricity at night for easing the pressure on the grid. Win win
What I would do when it’s time to go to an electric boiler (or green alternative) is then invest in a ‘Home battery’ system which stores the energy I produce and can be used when the need arises instead of mains. Won’t of course work completely sustainably during the winter at the time particularly when consumption will be highest.

I'm curious as all my in-laws have converted to heat pumps dans la belle France...Meanwhile they(the French) come here and infiltrate our infrastructure with the likes of EDF and Atlantic(ideal boilers) when they could be enlightening us to the benefits of heat pump tech......

We've had a heat pump for 15 years which does all our heating and hot water... An IVT Greenline 3phase unit. Never needed a service, just ticks along happily. Really really cheap to run...

Heat pumps are wonderful...

Keep on thinking on getting the heat back from when you pour water down the drain from washing the pots or having a shower or bath as it seems a waste but not sure how to go about it.

Plus, i think I will be going electric car next year (finance finishes on the wife's car then) so having cheaper off-peak electricity difference would be a logical thing to have I suppose...
