does anybody use this, or have any knowledgable views?

my server admin have been advertising this free gratis but I'm not sure my sites would warrant such attention....my visibility is dropping, which is probably not a bad thing these days.

It's a CDN - Content Delivery Network.

Basically, they have a MASSIVE amount of high-bandwidth connectivity to the internet and have a huge number of connection points, so are pretty immune to things like DoS (Denial of Service) and DNS attacks.

When you do a download from Microsoft, it often comes from Cloudflare - many of the major Web companies use them too rather than each company creating its own equivalent infrastructure. Makes sense when you think about it.

Like other big CND providers, e.g. Akamai , they have a direct fiber link into some of the cloud providers, e.g. Google, Microsoft and AWS, such that when a request for a download comes in from one of those, the data doesn't have to go via the internet, i.e. the latency is very low and the data is delivered extremely rapidly.

This is critical for really big stuff like Windows Updates to 10s of 1000s of servers in these clouds...
