Sadly I recognise the shop, having been there but not until the early 60's. Imhofs, ground floor and basement for records, upstairs hi-fi studio.

My comment was directed at Owston as beards are coming back into fashion. Has anything changed, even the amps look the same.

Even in those heady days record quality was variable, to say the least.

And is it wrong to be equipment orientated as well as looking for the best sound quality ?
