my first ever car was a genuine avo 1972 escort mexico in pristine condition i paid 3000 quid for in 1986..i then swapped it for a mkv cortina lol.
that mexico is now worth up to 100k..

Prius. Bought new in May 2010 - put over 101,000 really, really boring miles on it. Bought when I was doing 90 miles a day commute and I was fed up of burning through £400 in petrol every month. Wasn't interested in all the tree-hugging environmental crap that went along with it, I just wanted to save money on fuel and not give up automatic transmission.

Not a driver's car in any way, shape or form. But I have never, ever had a single problem, it's saved me thousands of pounds on fuel and even more money on servicing - they cost feck all to service and maintain, and what I need right now is a reliable workhorse that'll just keep on going at minimal cost.

The regenerative braking helped a set of brake discs to last over 90,000 miles. Not bad, really.

I did enjoy the MX-5 and MR2's I've had in days past though.

I now have a 0 miles a day commute and we're thinking of moving to quite a rural area - might end up chopping it in for a 4x4 lol

nice to hear..so u recomend a prius? as a dd car i dont care what it is as long as it's cheap to buy and run..i'de have a suzuki alto but the wife wont have it.

When I bought it every man and his dog was telling me I should have bought a diesel - I know for a fact I'd have spent a hell of a lot more on servicing and repairs and cleaning out particulate filters since then if I'd gone down that road - not to mention all the pollution taxation the govt is now talking about as it turns out the damn things are not as friendly to the environment as we were led to believe.

If what you want is four wheels, a seat, reasonable practical space and sod all running costs, it's perfect. CVT auto is exactly right for heavy traffic, you just use a few amps of electricity to inch along. People go on about the complexity of hybrids but mechanically, it's incredibly elegant and simple - which makes it one of the most reliable cars you can buy.

Motoring journalists are always knocking Toyota's hybrid drive system but I think it's by far the best out there - they've been doing it the longest. If I ever get richer I might spring for one of the Lexus hybrids as they use the same tech.

cheapness of running for me is the most important thing with a dd car..i will look into a prius when the warranty is up on the hyundai..
