I did the 'Drakes Trail' ride today. Plymouth to Tavistock and back via route 27. Awethumne.

The climb up out of Clearbrook is a good lung buster but once you get to the top it don't arf feel like you're riding on the top of The England!

Home ground! If you'd dropped into Saltram visitors' centre, my daughter would have sold you NT membership. She seems to be able to sell it to everyone passing through.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Ah, so it was your daughter who chasing me down the river path waving that biro and membership slip at me!

Lovely area, even the cycletrack under the Devon Expressway is super clean and fast.

Would've been great to have joined you for another AT club run Dave but sadly I couldn't take the day off after being on leave last week. Looks like you're having a good week.

Shane, welcome to Zummerzet. Do you remember Angela, who used to post here as the 'Old Trout'? This is her business closeby Somerton;

I visited a couple of times and its something of an Aladin's cave.

We'll be spending a few days down your way in September as it looks like a friend is gonna let us use their caravan at Challaborough.

Yes indeed. I visited Angela a couple of times a year or two ago when my brother was having trouble with his Quad 405. Shame she doesn't post here any more, but I doubt I she'd have much truck with recent shenanigans hereabouts!

In between painting front doors and assembling kitchens we've been doing a bit of exploring. We're about 10 minutes walk from Lytes Cary which is delightful, and we've had a few shopping trips to Glastonbury and, inevitably, Street. Later this afternoon it'll be Shepton Mallet and Frome. Hoping to catch a glimpse of the Shepton Mallet Matador...

what's the elevation figure all about
it looks like youve gone 1600ft above sea level and then 1600ft below sea level...all along the banks of the Thames?

are there rapids?
There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be

Didn't you know, Ed? The whole of London is being raised 1600' to avoid rising sea levels due to climate change.

Not 'arf, I go well-rapids on my little legs!

I think the 1667ft figure is the sum of all the hills and mountainettes I climbed during the ride. This is what the elevation of that ride looks like...

infinite fractal coastlines springs to mind.

Well, I'll try and answer my own question.

I think it's related to the Coastline Paradox which is where a different figure can be derived depending on what unit of measurement is being used.
