Phil, you've got to get the leg over, not the once.

Go for it Phil, new ATCC members always welcome, but heed Mr. B's advice and go steady.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Go steady eh ?
I've got the bike out of the shed. Pumped up the tyres and washed bird poo off the seat.
Everything seems OK, but the front disc brake is (and always has been) a bit vicious, it need a gentle touch.
Last time the bike was used I did a 5 mile run, so I'll probably do that route again, but not just yet.

Phil, practice your gentle touch and you'll be able to enjoy getting your leg over daily...pre65 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 12:01 pm Go steady eh ?

One question if I may, regarding attire for rides out.
As I have no lycra gear, could I make some leggings from a black bin bag and PVC adhesive, and then use a hot air gun to shrink them to my shapely legs ?
I want to have the right attire, but without looking silly.
Whatya reckon ?

I know this is not quite up to the standard but I am trying......
Cateye performed faultlessly, I got back and it said 44 minutes on the screen...so I pressed the menu button to record the journey. It just wouldn't give up it's secrets when asked to download, just kept saying 'no data to download...so I painted a picture with google maps:
now you're saying 44 mins for 8.5 ish miles, pah!...but no, the seat collapsed at 6km and I had to limp home with my knees banging on my chin. Up to that point every time I looked at the cateye it said 25 or 26, which I presumed was 26kph. I did look for the allen key in the saddle bag(take 5 mins off the time) but remembered I'd taken it out at the weekend to fettle someting totally unimportant....As it happens the seat post had slid all the way down till the seat was on the frame. When I got home I found the tightening bolt was at its limit of squeeze so I'm going to have to modify it or insert some washers........oh waily

Good'un Ed, well done. Cut up a coke can - excellent shim washer.
Now, no more zooming down the centre white lines in Beds I'm afraid. There's too many damnable motor cars; not as many as on a normal holiday type of day but far too many. On main street ( oooo americanism) there were three boys in their beat box cars playing with themselves and there's just one or two too many cars out on the country roads to be utterly carefree and able to delight in the trees the sky and the birds. Then there was a bugger of an easterly headwind coming back to Bedford which quite got my heart rate going.
Still, it is as it is.

Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

certainly pays to persevere....I fiddled with the mode button and jiggled the usb plug(it feels very sloppy) and hey waddyaknow
I don't know where the 44 minutes relates to, but the time shown on the plot shows 22 minutes.....oh this cateye stuff is trixy to be sure.
ahh, the penny might have dropped.....it did remember me fiddling yesterday...and although when I started pressing buttons at the end of my trip I didn't go anywhere it may have started recording the time for todays trip.....so that 22 minutes may actually be 22 hours.....

Good to see you got it going Ed - maybe an application of some contact cleaner?
Next you'll have to get a Strava account and sync your ride data.

Sorry, but the Covid 19 restrictions won't allow it, unless you drive by and wave.

Only did about 2.5 miles, uses different muscles than walking.
Also, the seat hurts my pubic bone so some adjustments needed.

I am getting there, albeit a tad slowly....
is there any benefit for me going to strava? everything I seem to be doing looks like it's already on atlas, and I'm unlikely to braek any records at my age, especially in the urban environment......I had a look at strava but nothing jumped out and said 'you need this'..but maybe I'm missing something.
