there is yet something other, destined to take the place of the mudshark in your mythology

So I set of at 6:13 this morning to improve on my best distance and, hopefully, get back into the peleton.
It was rather chilly at that time this morning so I resorted to wearing leggings but my arms and hands were pretty cold. Beautiful riding conditions though, no wind and clear blue sky, Very quiet too, I doubt if I saw more than a dozen cars during the first hour and a half, though it got a bit busier as I approached an awakening Yeovil. Explored some new roads and places, much of the levels was cloaked in a low mist (only about 2-3ft above the ground) which looked quite ethereal and I must go and check out the small town of Martock again.
I took it easy on the outward leg and got to Yeovil at about 08:30 and registered for the charity ride, enjoyed an energy bar and banana and was ready for the Grande Departe at 09:00. On the ride back to Taunton I hooked up with a group of club riders and, by sitting near the back, got pulled along at a good average speed, significantly faster than I could manage on my own, which was nice as the wind was getting up a bit across the levels. As the hills near the end loomed the group fragmented and I was surprised to find myself near the front and out-cllimbing the chaps I was riding with - I plunged back down to the finish in Taunton on my own so got early dibs on the waiting confectionary. There was a lovely welcome when I arrived at the Hospice (the charity I was riding for; https://www.somerset-hospice.org.uk/) from a good crowd of supporters and a few patients and staff, which made the effort all the more worthwhile.
Unfortunately, technology let me down as the battery on my cycle computer (cruelometer?) ran out about 6miles from the end of the ride - my own fault for not putting it on the charger yesterday. All in I rode about 73miles at 15.5mph average; does that get me back into the peleton chaps?

Cheers Andrew.
I should have added that I suffered no botty discomfort and the little bit of aching legs was taken care of with a couple of hours walk with Judy this afternoon. Feeling good now - maybe I should saddle up again

STOP!
Enough already! You win! Andrew, give him the gold cup
Respectacles Ray, thats a good ride, well done. You and Andrew take lead.
I had 'bad fish' today, 43 miles of wandering through a much closed off London due to some big 'sport' event (I don't know why our 'team' weren't invited to win).

I can safely say that if I set off at 6:13am, rode 73 miles, then did a 2 hour walk in the afternoon, I'd be in an (early) grave. I think I'd have been in a bit of a state even when I was 25 !

I've had the week off work and have been out for a couple of morning 20-30 mile trips to counteract the inevitable tea and cake when we go out in the afternoons.
This morning I did 20.5miles over an identical route to a ride I did in mid-April. General stats for the two rides are;
April 16th 2017
Moving Time: 01:17:42
Calories: 866
Avg. Watts: 186
Max Speed: 30.8 mph
Avg. Speed: 15.8 mph
August 11th 2017
Moving Time: 01:09:25
Calories: 919
Avg. Watts: 221
Max Speed: 33.5 mph
Avg. Speed: 17.7 mph
Not a bad improvement in under four months.
