I got a 25mile ride in this afternoon. Played it safe and stuck to the same route as yesterday as I knew the road was dry and ice free - even ventured out on my 'best bike' sans mudguards. It's was just an out and back ride and I went a little further but chickened out when I got to a tiny place called Waterrow - it's in a steep wooded valley and the ground was still white with frost and the road turned into an ice rink.

Went for a decent country walk with SWMBO and the dog instead. Lots of ice still around, but a lovely day for a stroll! Crisp & clear!

I went out on Friday and Sunday again on the zero-wheeled bicycle.
I have pictures, will try to post a few when I get chance, conditions were again excellent for scenic shots.

Still haven't put them up, have I ?
This weekend - 1hr 10 on the Great Orme on Friday.
Today was a slog. 2hrs 06 on the usual route, pulse 123, abnormally low.
One to tick off as 'done'. Felt crap, and lots of slippery mud.
Two achievements :
1. 2hrs 06
2. Didn't fall over

Nasty headwinds but a decent ride nonetheless. Some big hills, including the vicious climb up the North Downs from Grafty Green to Lenham.

I damaged my right knee rather badly two weeks ago, so this is the first test and thankfully it seems ok...

I also suffered with headwinds this morning but managed a 32mile jaunt up onto the Blackdown Hills. Pretty chuffed actually as I set myself a target of a new personal best on the first climb; I took the best part of two minutes off (>11% improvement) in spite of the headwind and maintained HR zone 5 for four minutes! Also set a new best on the second 'big' climb (shorter but steeper)! Glad I went this morning though as it's a lot windier now. Still a lot of standing water and mud on some of the lanes so I was pretty mucky when I got home.

I cropped the photo 😱

I looked like I'd done a "Tough Mudder" by the time I got back. Had to clean the chain and disc brakes carefully as full of grit.

Knee injury was a pratfall... Clearing table after supper, hands full of stuff for the fridge, turned round and fell over a stack of 2x8x22mm flooring chipboard. Flat on my face, knee caught edge of boards...

Who the fuck leaves a stack of wood like that in the kitchen????? 🤔

😱

One of NickdS's knees is going to have a baby.

I've achieved a new commute PB this week. All the way home, uphill, seated, big cog on the front, 3rd gear on the back. All the way, no standing uppers. Yes, shock-horror, Bellamy has gears, but they're not required when you're in 'Pro-commuter' mode. Ha!

A really hard ride this morning, out into lumpy West Somerset, taking in the old Brendon Hills Iron Mining village (now no more!); very windy over the hills and even had to work hard to make progress down hill in places! It was nice to finally head eastwards and pick up a tailwind. Probably the most tired I've felt after a ride for a long time, especially after yesterday's exertions!

Good effort.
I has a walk Friday with the new camera, sun went in though, but not too bad a day. About an hour & a half including some stops.
Today went out intending to do 2 hrs, but poor fitness, then rain coming in and quite strong winds, I lost motivation & cut it short, 1 hour 10.
Still seem to be operating a sort of 'pain, no gain' system at the moment. About 9 weeks of 2x walks per weekend and still no improvement in my climbing speed.

I have a place in the 100mile Ride London event that takes place in August!

I've made the 25,000 or so starters drawn from the 75,000 or so entries. :D
