Yes they where only supposed to take a few days to sort but I keep buying things I like.. I was brought up on Bates and holdsworth in the sixties.. all old bikes then, but I always loved the lugwork , I remember how proud I was of my cyclone deluxe. But a lot of years have passed since then.
We used our bikes a lot last year, hung on the back of the mòtorhome they where great in France and spain.
These oldies won't be left on the back of the van though.
I've just got hold of a swb tandem, Lesley was keen on the idea, so I 've managed to buy a rensch/paris from the 40's, it will be refurbished like the others, hopefully by the end of feb so I can get back to finishing the motorised bikes waiting in the wings

Phew - just got back from a walk on the Clwydian hills to get some fresh air. Certainly got that - conditions were around 2°C with wind gusting to about 65 or 70 mph in the worst bits. Disappointed there was no snow, though - or sunshine. Another failed weather forecast from the BBC.

We were supposed to be playing tennis today.

Fat chance. Blowing a complete hooley with horizontal rain.

So we thought that we'd take the dog for a walk.

Fat chance. Got 50 metres from the gate and the heavens opened.

...the ride out is probably a tad cheaper though...

... however, you get the cost of the "fitting" back if you buy a bike off them...

...which I'm now likely to do. Likely to be based on a Trek carbon frame... (The titanium frames were too eye-wateringly expensive)

I'd love to, Monsieur le Bass, mai c'est Off the menu. When I watched some of the video of me on the test frame, I had "a bit of a gut" - lycra is very very unflattering

Well I've had a funny week. The paris tandem I had bought last week was a frame only.
This last weekend a holdsworth tandem came up on eBay. I made a silly offer as most of the parts looked like they would fit the Paris frame.. excepted my offer...surprisingly,
I picked it up on Tuesday and was gobsmacked when I saw it.. there was only one blurry pic on the advert.
When I picked it up I was greeted by a dusty but lovely conditon, holdsworth top end bike, from 82 by the frame number, loaded with good quality bits i could not believe my luck. It's really too good to break for the parts

Then the next night the person who I bought the Paris tandem from emailed to say they had found most of the parts for it... so I've now got 2 virtually complete bikes... I'll get the Paris one restored soon and see which one we prefer.
What I could not believe, as of thought all tandem where quite small, is they are both 23 +22 1/2 inch frames which is perfect for us.
they will add to the list of projects that keep me in the shed during the winter

Should get it next Wednesday. Lots of shiney bits. Obviously, that'll make me a better cyclist.

Being half serious, it's based on a fairly standard Trek Domane carbon frame but everything else is custom.

Have to go back and have another fitting before delivery...

Well, it is coming with wheels and tyres that are suitable for gravel & stone tracks in the forest...

It's looks like it's from a different planet when compared with the old bike. Can't wait !
