I just remembered one of the last things my dad did was got involved with motor torpedo boats, for the reason that he knew French and German so could act as interpreter in case they went across the channel (?). The boats were like floating bombs, plus all the petrol to make the big engines work (no diesel yet) so there was a no-smoking rule.

Essentially an American made marine version of the Rolls Merlin x 3. Basically a floating bomb!

There used to be one (converted to a houseboat) in very poor condition in Rye Harbour...

A little later, seeing 1950s service, this restored patrol boat operated out of Watchet harbour for several years (apparently now on the River Avon near Bristol). It certainly made an impression when it started up its engines.

I wonder if we'll ever have another Gay class of Royal Navy vessels?

Was 'tidying-up' in the spare room last evening and found a box with a pair of Fostex FE167E drivers. I bought them from Phil back along with a view to building some OBs and then put them away and forgot about them.

Anything you did in 1990 will now be 30 years ago. How scary is that.
