Blimey! How the other half live!

I was brought up in Sarf East Lunndon - Catford/Deptford/Lewisham/etc. It were tough. Wellard. But the only stuff that went round our way was a bit of weed. The only guy I knew that regularly did hard stuff jumped off a tower block.

When I moved to Canada (Newfoundland) after uni to work in St. Johns, I shared a house with my then long-term girlfriend (a geologist) and a bunch of other post-grads, including 2 Californians (also geologists) who turned the bathroom of our nice timber Newfie house into a hydroponics lab.

You could hardly get in there, the foliage was that dense. Fantastic having a bath or your morning constitutional though...

We had two kittens named, due to a stunning lack of imagination and an element of nominative determinism, #1 and #2. They used to loiter outside the bathroom - whenever the door opened, they'd rush in and frantically start chewing leaves - completely stoned, they'd then fall down the (carpeted) stairs and sleep it off, before climbing back up again and restarting the process. Watching them charge around in the deep snow out back whilst they hadn't a clue which planet they were on was a great joy.

Eventually we had to wean them off it as it wasn't kind and they were perpetually out of their tree...

"Only in Dubai" is a saying we normally only use when something stupidly frustrating happens, however on the way to the Dubai rugby 7s today I got flashed by a speed camera. That normally means an instant GBP 130 fine - you receive an SMS from the police immediately you are flashed... But instead of the usual instant fine, today I got this:

You exceeded speed limit, violation will not be issued on the occasion of National Day

Wow, how much ?

Last thing I made in Meccano was a motorised drum roller when I was into processing my own photos. Worked a treat. :D

I made a crane.

Roller skates.

A tool rack.

A huge great tower with all the Mecano parts I had in a wooden box just to see how high a self-supporting tower could go. Dad joined in on a ladder.

A small car.

A support and groundplane for a 1/4wave loaded dipole for a CB radio transmitter aerial.

And other other stuff no doubt.

I never had an instruction book so I 'free-formed' , It was great fun.

Snork ! :D
I wonder why I have an image of Dave arriving in Germany by spacecraft and emerging like George Clinton, with an army of funk musicians ?
