Nothing In Particular

Good god I'm bored today....

Why do compilation albums and best of albums on vinyl always sound crap compared to the actual albums the tracks come off? I presume it's because they cram on more tracks than is optimal and remix them to have less frequency extremes to make more space on the disc?

Well.. they don't always. Maybe so for late 70's or 80's compilations. Early ones can be really good though - just run through a copy of 'Bumpers' by Island, or one of the Vertigo, Probe or Transatlantic samplers. However they were sticking to under 20mins per side on those.

I got my new brake pads for the van last week, and fitted them on Saturday.
I wasn't really happy about one caliper, when pushing the pistons back in the resistance felt too great. The other caliper was better, but I've bitten the bullet and ordered a new pair from a German company on Ebay for a quite reasonable amount.
Also, I've just ordered a vacuum brake bleeder kit in a plastic case, easy to do the job single handed and only £11.25 on Ebay.
And yes, I have got some Dot4 brake fluid coming as well.

Will be interesting to read how you get on with the bleed kit Phil, I've read those cheap 'vacuum' bleed kits aren't up to much. I'm looking for something better than my old Gunson one man make a mess bleed kit!

I've still got at least one of those Gunson kits, but no reservoir adaptors for "modern" vehicles. Last time I tried to use it (with bodged adaptors) I got brake fluid everywhere.
I'm reasonably sure the kit I've ordered will meet my needs, but it will probably be a week (or so) before all my bits are here.

Late Saturday night my uncle finally passed away, he had pancreatic cancer, first diagnosed November I think? So didn't take long. He originally went to the doc because of "digestive problems", which turned out was because the growth was constricting a tube connected to his liver. A stent sorted that, but of course only temporarily. To be honest we thought (or I did) he'd last a bit longer, maybe April, but obviously not. But anyway he got to be 89, not bad. He'd only just got himself and the wife moved into a care home, she has been confined to bed for a while, had a stroke some years ago and never fully recovered, mobility affected. Funeral next week or so I'm guessing, Not sure, when my mum died was nearly a month.

Sad times Mike. Not a good way to go. Seems like once you get past 50 it's hard to get away from involvement with mortality in one form or another.

Sorry to hear that Mike, even though its a sad inevitability of life, its still a kick in the nuts regardless of someone's age

Yes not really a choicest way to go TBH.

We had a voice mail left yesterday inviting us to call a number urgently because out landline/broadband was going to be cut off. I told Judy to ignore it and strangely, having done nothing, our landline and broadband are both working fine - evidenced by this post!

I had a very persuasive Indian chap telling me my broadband connection had been compromised and someone else was accessing the internet on my line. He wanted me to perform actions on my computer to put the problem right.
I asked a few well chosen questions, then told him he was a con man, which he denied, but eventually he rang off.
I can see why some folk are fooled by these sort of scams.

the message goes: "this is BT technical support, your landline broadband has been compromised, to discuss this please press one now"
It's funny because we are not on BT or any of it's derivitives....
