Actually, I got a text from the NHS saying now you're 65, you need to go get a flu jab

I had mine many weeks ago.

Next year I'll be offered the shingles jab, but I may decline.

having a poke around in a cole lcr phono stage today that i was asked to have a look at to see why the mc section wont work and the mm section does. I think we found out why.....

ImageIMG_20191205_115759 by anthony cresswell, on Flickr

that clear stuff is the potting compound, in this case beeswax that s&b used in these mc step ups. There has been enough heat inside the case to boil it up and out of the mu metal cans. a fairly spectacular fail. you can see on the left hand one where the yellowy deposit is, that the pressure in the can has actually broken the solder joint between the can and the top
I had to ring s&b to ask what it was as i was expecting the black stuff you usually see.
oh dear..... they asked me to send them over to see if they can rebuild them, that will probably be a rather large bill.

Its very lucky that the lcr transformers are still working as they show the same problem, but haven't failed.

so as it stands, its a lovely moving magnet only stage. it hasn't been used since we tried it alongside some others at mi dads about 9 months ago, its been sat here waiting for some bench time since then

Oh and i got another tt almost done, this one will use a verus idler motor stood at about 8 o'clock relative to the platter and an origin live conqueror 12" arm with a dynavector dv20 x2L cart

Blimey!

That's a sweet sounding phono stage. I contacted Brian Cherry regarding the circuit but never got a reply. I'd be really interested to see how it's built if you get chance to look at the circuit :-).

Thought I could just get away with doing a phono socket conversion, but the blue wire has a break in it somewhere. Piggin ell. At least it's a fairly easy job with one of these

Watch the price of second hand SME arms explode through the ceiling! Think they are shooting themselves in the foot with this move.

I asked my daughter in law who lives in Somerset the same question.

Got a rather terse reply.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Well. it seems that I slept through it but it has been quite the topic of conversation at work today. Although it's a minor event on the richter scale people have been saying that their houses were shaking significantly for several seconds.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

One of my million years old back-burner project ideas was for a cassette recorder to mess about wtih. I got the transport, a nice JVC one, nice for its time that is, when I worked at Maplin, so what 30+ years ago. They had acquired a job lot of surplus ones for one of their magazine projects. However at some stage the tape counter bit went AWOL. But last week I saw one on eBay that could be made to work and snapped it up. It arrived, so then I'm searching for the deck yesterday, it should be in a cardboard box, no nuthin'. Gorn.

Then I vaguely remember having a tidy up and scrapping it, as, "never going to get around to doing anything with this"

More likely, just ‘living in the past’.
