Nothing In Particular
#8101 Re: Nothing In Particular
Took a trip on the West Somerset Railway today, very relaxing...
We travelled to Watchet and had a stroll around the harbour. West Somerset has a strong association with the poet Coleridge, there's an excellent statue of 'The Ancient Mariner' at the harbour.

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Aha, Bishops Lydeard, been on the railway a few times now and enjoyed every trip.
Must be nice to be local to it.

I used to clean and fire this one in 1978 ( memory) at what was then known as Mainline Steam Trust, now the Great Central Railway. It was more in BR condition back then, and I was buggered if I could get the exhaust steam injector to pick up.

We're planning to stay down in South Devon for a few days at the end of the week and, all being well we'll get a River Dart cruise on the Kingswear Castle (her refit was extended but she was due back in service today);
Beautiful! She's the last coal-fired paddle steamer operating in the UK. You can watch that fantastic steam engine in operation through the skylights.

We went on the river from Totnes to Dartmouth some years ago, but sadly I can't remember the boat.
How about one of these ?

Not sure I would want to be working on a footplate in our current weather!
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Yes, very.
Not quite so local, we're going to try to get down to this line during the summer too; they now run services right through from Wareham, connecting to the national network.

Mmmmm, bacon and egg sarny cooked on the firemans shovel, washed down with stewed tea kept warm on the ledge above the regulator valve

I had mislaid two Wispa bars.
Hunted high and low, ransacked the most logical places.
Then much later, I remembered something.
And lo, it came to pass, I found them in the glovebox of the car.
Pretty much in a liquid state . . .

Decided to dig the el34 amp out and put it back in in place of the f5. Had to borrow some old electro harmonix's, the kt77s I was using before are nowhere to be found.....
Nothing fell off, and it didnt blow up when it was switched on.
About as simple as it gets, a paralleled ecc83 on the front, cap coupled to the el34 which is triode strapped.
Brute force choke input power supply with a gz34 and some sand diodes to make a hybrid bridge. about 900uf ish worth of caps
Tbh it looks a bugger these days, its been bashed about over the years, hasnt been used in about 18 months, but is really does do something nice.
No regs, no nice bits apart from some tad pio coupling caps and an alps black.
Glad I dug it out
