what are you doing ?
#511 Re: what are you doing ?
THe cycling fraternity talk about n+1 being the number of bikes you need, where n = the number of bikes you currently own.
I'm at four now but with a spare frame and quite a few parts collected so number five is on the way...

Same formula for amplifiers in my case.

Yep, I seem to be in a similar situation, and DACs...

I'll keep my head down when it comes to having anything in quantities
The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

For me, it was valves and Nixies. It's almost embarrassing - I feel quite guilty about it now...
I've reduced the number of amps and speakers having sold a lot at AudioJumble and elsewhere, but still way way too much.
Wondering about the crates of valves... I'll never use them...

Are they likely to be any types that members here would be interested in ?

Well I assume you don't intend to break them or have them buried with you . So I don't think you need to feel too guilty.I feel quite guilty about it now

Are you offering to sell on these or just showing us the family silverware?
If the former, quantities and prices would be useful? Some of them might be of interest.
I need to source half dozen E88CC for my valve DAC project?

People don't normally put up stuff that's not for sale in the 'For Sale' section !

Seems like a lot of people are doing something - lots of projects have suddenly sprung into life - good to see.

Got the lenco I bought today, the ortofon is a vms3 and the other one was a shure, not a v15, but actually something reasonable, an me95ed
It's at least worth hunting out a new stylus for it.
The plinth is a load of old shite, it has what to all appearances appears to be a large plastic seed tray stuck on the bottom of it to cover it, and is on some tapered plastic feet which appear to be off the end of a walking stick.
That'll all get binned anyway.
The arm is busted, the plastic housing that has the v blocks in has a crack in it so it pulls of the lateral bearing shaft, is missing the pig tail for the bias weight, and the bias weight, the stub is also drooping.
Doesn't matter, it'll get binned anyway.
It does have a nice condition headshell, so that will be kept along with the weights.
Mechanically, it's fine, motor spins freely, bearing has no rocking, and the original 78 mat is in really nice nick so that will be kept too.
The idler wheel also looks OK too.
So for my purposes its perfectly good
If I was to restore it, it'd want a new arm
Hmmm.
What to do with it.....

Just collected a really nice massive swarm from a neighbour's garden. Got the queen into the nuc box (pronounced "nuke", a small portable hive) and closed the entrance to all but workers so she couldn't get out.
Then put a cardboard box under the branch and shook all the remaining bees in that huge clump into the box then threw them on the ground in front of the nuc.
As the queen is in the nuc and they can smell her, they march up the little cardboard ramp into the box. Takes about 10 minutes for them all to get in.
Textbook stuff. About 20 to 30,000 bees there.
