Slightly appropriate to the Audio forum, but he was a hero of mine :

He directed 'Performance' with Mick Jagger, the 1971 film of Glastonbury 'Glastonbury Fayre' , David Bowie in 'The Man who fell to earth'.
..and Walkabout and...

cor...there was a time when I was hugely envious of him.....but who wouldn't be when thinking about the man that spent months when his only job was watching a very young Jenny Agutter with no clothes on, day after day after day....

on second thoughts he may have come inches from total madness.....mmmm

I think the amount of time Jenny was naked has become much exaggerated in your memory , Ed - I think it was one scene !
But very fine, and the whole film is amazing, almost too intense to watch I find, these days.
However he does admit in the 'director's commentary' on Glastonbury Fayre that he ended up briefly in mental hospital after filming that - perhaps the devil's potion was involved ?
