Hi all, new to the forum: I've got one of these amplifiers.

Philip (pre65) knows a bit about it: anyone else got anything to share on these?

I have to admit my "knowledge" came from a bit of "Google-ing" and not from past experience.

Seems Philips gear from that era was considered "quality" rather than later mass market kit which was "middling".

Plenty of references to service manuals on the net if you need/want one.

Hi Philip,

I did find some info by "Googling" over the weekend - Philips valve data book, circuit diagram and Dutch language owners/service manual.

Of course, I can't post links yet, being a newb... give it time, though!

Looks like its OTL for the 800 ohm speakers and output transformers for the 4 & 8 ohm speaker output.

I think the way the OP TX's are drawn doesn't help things.

We used to repair amongst other things N-series Phillips Cassette recorders in my first place of employ and the accompanying cct diagrams were odd on those too.

Yes, but look how the driver stage and output stage are interconnected. And look where B+ goes and doesn't.

Gents, I'll take some photos, if you'd like to see the beast in closer detail.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the O/P tubes are configured differently, too (pentode valves worked as triodes?) - does this make any sense, with or without a visit to a Dutch-style cafe?

Had a quick listen again tonight... not bad at all, considering it was a freebie!

Well, from that diagram, they are running as pentode, but I am still trying to work out the interconnected feedback loops. I am not saying its a bad design, I suspect far from it, its just a complex one AFAIKS.

Suggestion: if anyone is in the East Sussex area, pop by and have a look/listen... (obviously, let me know in advance!)

Alternatively, do you guys arrange meet-ups/bake-offs or similar? Might be able to bring it along, if anyone's interested...
