Amusing, though to note that in his price list, Jac says only offers the graphite ones , "Copper plate is extremely rare and sold out"
That link makes interesting reading.

The chap I used to know who did the valve matching for Colomore said exactly the same about the Chinease 845's and 211's of that period (about 8 years ago and longer). He also said the same, it was the attachment of the pins to the graphite which caused the poor quality. He said that when you plugged them into the tester you could even see little arcs where the poor contact was.

Whatever you say about the GM70 it doesn't suffer from this poor production quality. Neither do the Western world versions of the 211 or 845. The Chinease have managed to make better quality 2a3's etc and maybe the more expensive 845's and 211's are also made to the required standard. It would cost money to find out; I would rather spend mine in Russia where production quality has proved on the whole very good.

Yes, the GM70 seems to be one of the nice anomalies in the price/performance relationship .

Well, look what I just got , brought round by my neighbour -
A birthday present ( self-paid ) from Tashkent !

They seem to be hoarding lovely 50 year-old stylee brown paper and string out there in Uzbekistan too - what a nice wrapping job he did :D

That's how my gran made parcels I used to have to put my finger in the middle of the knot while she tied the other bit of it. Year's later I realise it is a way of making grandchildren feel valued :P

My RU81's weren't very well packaged and have a decidedly left in the shed for 50 years to corrode look about them, and a most certainly not NOS. But the filaments are intact and they are cheap, so hey ho.

Its the rough way those copper anodes are riveted together (my way) as opposed to the seriously solid graphites - oooooerrrrr

I'm sure he would understand, Greg, sat in front of his early GM70 amp, with a bottle of laudanum .
