a list? - that's a good idea. Perhaps I can build one into my life style; could be really useful.

Now, where do I begin?

I'd rather spend a day exploring Dave's Bs than Andrew's Ds.

Interesting little revelations, those.

The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Eh up lads, it's working again. :D

The CV1285 (6N7) transplant has been accomplished. There were a few moments (pratt of the week award sort ) with wires in the wrong place and trying to get the anode voltage closer (downwards) to 250v. Got 246v at the moment so that part was achieved.

Now, the gain of CV1285 is less than the previous trioded C3g, and the volume pot is nearly on maximum to get room filling sound. I'm just playing a few CDs to get a feel of the sound before I go out, but it certainly has not lost anything, if anything it's a miniscule gnats gentlemans sausage better. :)

So, amp is back in action and I'm pleased with the result. Magic. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

One thing I've just realised, there is no grid leak resistor on the CV1285.

What would be a suitable value ?

Shall I try 1M to start with ?

As the 6N7 and its variants such as the 6A6 are class B driver and power valves, with a possible 10W power output, I would not be using a 1M as a grid resistor.

Try a 100K or thereabouts instead Phil.

Cheers Steve, I'll try that tomorrow.

If I was brave enough perhaps I could try designing a 3 stage version with (perhaps) the 112a as the first valve.

The 100K grid leak resistors have now been fitted.

If I were to experiment with an input transformer (say 1-2 step up) are there any pit falls to be wary of ?

More cuts, more mistakes, more frustration and 'Miller' - However that should not stop you - oh yes and impedance issues but that wouldn't stop me.

What sttops me is the appalling mess that was my home ... blah blah blah ... weeps quietly in a corner.

Yo omib,

we have heard much of this wailing apropos the demise of chez toi.....I for one am now frustrated as the prose is less than descriptive....can I/we have some photographic evidence to support the wailing and perhaps then lend some sympathy...pretty please

Mmm, I can't help thinking that when Andrew does finally have some semblance of normality at home there will be a voracious and vigorous unstoppering of the creative cork that has plugged his youthful conduit for so long...
