I'm hoping these speakers along with the pink SET will go a bit towards my rehabilitation, but there's a long way to go.
The only caveat I would make, is that what I think is great sound, because I'm in the process of climbing out of a hole, will just sound normal to you lot at Owston :D
One man's meat........... The world would be a sadder place if we all liked the same things. The problem with speakers is there is no perfect speaker and what floats one persons boat sinks another's. There is no right or wrong answer. What works for you in your listening environment may not work in another's, or suit their taste in music and gear and we all know that the Owston room is a bugger for conventional box speakers and a reason that OB's work so well in there. Still I expect you new speakers will perform well in the room. As said looking forward to hearing them.

OK,
Stage two of the finishing process:
Image
Walnut veneer has been applied.
It'll be left until tomorrow to settle, after which the front cabinet corner beading will be applied.
Two brass parallel strips with a small gap between them, will be fitted around 3" below the driver, then the cab will be finished with several coats of Danish oil.
It's all getting very retro now. Once the tapered legs are fitted it'll all fall into place.

Finished apart from the grilles:

This is the most enjoyable speaker build I've done in years, mainly because the panels were all rectangular for once.

Nice job. :) I do like a classic box.

Do the legs affect the sound at all?

Hmmmmmm, good point.

Do the speakers' legs affect the sound quality at all?
That may be better expressed...

Insofar as they raise the drivers to about ear height, yes they do, otherwise I can't hear any ill-effects from having the legs.
I'm loving these things, but then I like everything don't I.
Where, within the labyrynthine structures of the mind, the bloody things came from I don't know, but the visual design speaks from somewhere waaaay back in the old subconscious; a time of innocence and no experience, when the Light Programme ruled the airwaves, Adam Faith made me giggle with his funny voice and there was always a smell of buns baking.

They look great Steve...
The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

Thanks chaps :)

Fender Tweed amp grille cloth arrived this morning. Offered it up to the cabinets, to get a basic idea of how it'd look and I couldn't have asked for a better result. The cabs look more 50s than the 50s.....marvellous! :D

One thing I'd better get right, is the yellow stripe in the cloth. Apparently it MUST run horizontally. To run the stripe vertically would be an act of sacrilege. I'm not about to piss off any guitarists on here.
