back loaded double horn - pipi
#1 back loaded double horn - pipi
Bit of a historic entry here but still in the vain of forum contribution.
This received some praise at Eggborough/Owston in the past and even at Richard’s Marriot hotel party. Due to the complex nature of the build and the out of date paradigm it’s very unlikely that anybody would want to build this in todays climate, but I’ve included it in case there are any methods in here that might be useful.

I remember those ed, they were lovely. I wanted some at the time, but was not capable of building them. Could probably do it now but not to your standard

Amazing craftsmanship Ed.
I'm being thick, but from the drawings and photos I can't make out how the rear chamber is connected to the W horn. Is there an opening somewhere?

Phwwwwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
These are what I've prattled on about at various times since knowing you(s) lot. IIRC it was a Al DiMeola and or a Return toforever track that made me go Phwoooooooooooarrrrr (sic) at an EggyFest.

Was that the time you fetched the sv572 amp to owston or the f5?

Hi Max
There is a port at the rear of the coupling chamber. Unfortunately I don’t have a good photo of it. From my original notes:
I originally wanted 21 sq cms which is 15% of the SD of the 167. This represents heavy loading for the 167 which is what I wanted as the flavour of the month at the time was still valve amplification.
This dictates somewhere between 122x 17.5 cms and 166 x 12.5 cms. After discussing this with Scott he suggested that Greg Montfort had deduced that aspect ratios beyond 9:1 brought on unpredictable and extended low frequency tendencies. So 122x 17.5 is what it ended up as.

Those and DTBs double horn things, were and remain the only horn speakers I ever listened to without wanting to run from the room (aplogies to horn lovers everywhere).
I remember DTB used to wheel his around by means of a skateboard. No sack barrows for him.

I'm glad Max asked that question about the chamber connection ... was bothering me .... is that an mBVR then ?
Funny as I was looking at the Curvy Chang earlier, quite spooky .

Nice shot - I like the pom-poms at the front being held up by the cheerleaders - I assume ?

Blimey ed, I had no recollection of taking that. So I had a look back and found it! It was an Eggy on 13th June 2009. Attached are the other 3 photos of your kit I posted.
(I also happened across a photo of Jono Noble's 45 amp from 2006...)- andrew Ivimey

Yep I member... They were cheer leaders with pom poms, definitely!
Lovely speakers too.
