Not had a lot of time recently, but here are two tests to see how the veneer will bend round corners - the uFonken is supposed to have the 45 degree corners at the front and 90 degrees at the rear... 45 degree corners were done on the router table - needs a big router cutter as the ply is 12mm so the diagonal is about 17mm meaning that the cutter is a beast at 50mm+ across (1/2" shank)... used TiteBond II aliphatic glue on both surfaces & allowed to completely dry before ironing very carefully through brown paper
This is black american walnut around 45 & 90 degrees - grain obviously has to be inline with the corner - finish is Chestnut Hard Wax Oil - only one coat on there when photos were taken - I'd appreciate advice on other possible finishes...
Pleasantly surprised with the results - better than I thought, though long way to go...

Assembled, chamfered corners, masked up and black painted ports & rebate prior to veneering - easier to paint now rather than later when I would cock up the veneer - can always touch it up later...

Getting there ... not too far now !
It's been a good weekend for getting on with Audio jobs - been working on OB unit No.2 myself .
You'll enjoy those when they're going - I was well pleased with the little MLTL's I built for the FE103E's .

Two months later, managed to complete the boxes (*) - "only" the veneering left to do
At least now I can listen to them
(*) Doesn't help that I've had no life for 8 weeks due to the company I (luckily) still work for being bought by a huge multi-national.

I haven't been around lately… the uFonkenWK is a favorite around here, and its slighly bigger brother, the uFonkenSET (Special Edition Trapezoid). This is the set that is destined for Scott, but currently in my office. Scott's current uFonkenSET (in solid Western Red Cedar) are with his computer.
Same box (different tuning) works with the Mark Audio Alpair 5.2 which should start arriving soonish (you can see my personal uFonkenSET just behind):

Veneer matched and cut - each piece marked for orientation. Coated veneer and carcasses with aliphatic glue - will iron it on tomorrow when dry.

Good point! Thanks for that - it's my very best pen and I'm very attached to it. CheersDave the bass wrote:Put the cap on your pen otherwise it'll dry out

A pleasure. It might be worth tying a small piece of string to the pen then attaching the other end of the string to a glove/mitten/duffle coat so its 'to-hand' at all times if its for bestest use.
