#1 Looking for a *really* challenging project?

I know this fails to be "hi-fi" in any sense of the word, but I've just found a (non-working) 30s-vintage Thorens electric gramophone on eBay:

I know a guy back in the US who'd be all over this, but knowing him he already has three of them. He gave me my first Victrola, a handsome tabletop model that used wooden louvers for volume control, and when I had to sell it to raise funds to move out of California, he sent me a portable one at my new address, which I still have.

That thing looks lovely, its something ive always wanted to have a crack at, restoring something from the very early era when there was innovation everywhere.
And with a penchant for the mechanical, id love to try and get something like that running as it did when they were new.
Bit steep on the shipping though!

Yeah, not a cheap proposition. It's a lovely old thing, though, isn't it'?

I'm sure that Cressy could build himself something similar and far better sounding if he wished.

And is Cressy Snr still thinking of a radiogram type project ?
