Do you think it could be run from a 19vdc laptop supply with a few tweaks?

I quite like the look of this circuit, it would fit inside one of my preamp cases and it would cost bugger all to try it out.

Exactly.

On Douglas Self's web page he says original supply was 15V, so sure.

Presumably 1\4 watt resistors throughout would do, with 0.1% tolerances, I'm going to look at a costing for it

I'm going to use 5% carbons cos that's what I like the sound of. Or rather, don't hear at all. And some reasonable quality elecs. Dunno what trannies yet depends what I've got 'in stock'.

well i bought the parts for mikes modded version of the vv7, it came to a grand total of about 30 quid including a plain sheet of matrix board 160mm x 100mm. this gives me a place to start on the casework sizing. given the quantities there's probably enough bits to build a couple of them  :D i need to get a couple of sockets if i decide not to scrounge up some off something else, only need 8, for my planned control unit, and a socket for the 19v laptop supply, dunno what size it is yet though

be nice to have a balanced out on it, you never know, i might be able to convert the old man back to the black stuff
he wont have the balance in excuse any more

Something very similar to that circuit started me off on phono stages. We made PCBs for it and sold them as kits. Many happy people.

cheers,

Could be run off 2 9v batteries too rather than a laptop supply
Something else to ponder

That's interesting Stephen.

Do you still have the "files" for the PCBs ?
