The Skip James LP is great. I can understand how Clapton et al became total fans in the 1960's.

Oh and the 'Yellow Princess' by Fahey is even better - the recording quality is great, the first side has a couple of the most wonderful tracks I've ever heard by a guitarist, he's like nobody else, just totally original. Such tone and power.

4 records today for the princely sum of 50p each.
A picture disc of rush hemispheres, Alice Cooper billion dollar babies with all the bits apart from the note, acdc if you want blood and Dr hook sometimes you win.

Gave them all a clean before playing them as they were grotty, but then what did I expect for 50p.... The Dr hook is in nice condition, the acdc is scratched to hell but its only pops and bangs so is playable, the Alice Cooper is also scratched to hell but is abit worse than the acdc, the rush disc was awful.

Had some sort of yellowy crap all over it that I reckon was a combination of coal dust and cigarette smoke. Must have been displayed on someones wall.

Having nowt to lose, i ended up submerging the entire disc in record cleaning fluid for about 45 minutes to dissolve all the crap off it as there is no centre label to ruin, binned the fluid, then ran it through the knosti with fresh fluid.

Came out pristine.
Well pleased with that, it plays like new. Abit more surface noise cos its a picture disc, but who cares

Keep checking in skips when you pass them, btw. My record dealer friend in Keswick once saw a stack of LP's in a skip in Carlisle and checked them - three of them were obscure Deram prog-rock LP's worth over £200 each.

Some necessary purchases here , to avoid future disappointment when they become unaffordable ! ;
The disc on the '77-Early Years-79 ' is practically mint. The Hex Enduction came from Holland, now been repatriated.

My Fall spree more or less complete. I had a purple patch last night and got these two on EBay at below the going rate, within half an hour.

Found this underrated gem by John Miles on our Mexborough indoor market record stall this afternoon.

"Stranger in the City" came out in late 1976:


I bought it when it came out, then lost it or sold it; can't remember.
The big hit off it was "Slow Down" which made No 2 in the American Disco chart,
but the other single "Remember Yesterday" is the best one for me; great, great song - very Supertramp in parts:



Good album (apart from "Slow Down") and worth hearing again after 42 years. Glad I found it.

Erks! Spanish import? Immaculate condition and stored in an anti static sleeve, better than my own copy from years ago.


I found this, liked the cover, never heard of the artist. Turned it over, nope, still none the wiser.


Took the record out, read the inner sleeve notes listing the band line up. 1/2 of 'Isotope', I'll have it!

Apparenty its called Freedom Is Frightening, a 1973 album by the Japanese percussionist, keyboardist and composer Stomu Yamash'ta and his band East Wind. Thank you Wikipedia!

I bought "Freedom is Frightening" in 1974 when I was 16, on that very same Island label, along with "Love, Devotion, Surrender" by John McLaughlin.
Nick has my plain orange label CBS copy of LDS. Don't know what happened to "Freedom is Frightening" I remember raving over it at school. It saw plenty of 6th form common room sound system action.

IIRC, "Freedom is frightening" is only a short album, but it was bloody good.

I remember reading a Carl Anthony article in "Audio" magazine around September 1974, where a certain John Farlowe, having just opened a hi-fi shop in Brighton, called "Exposure" used Yamashta and McLaughlin to show off a high end basement system with Quad 44 preamp, Amcron DC3000 power amplification, Technics DD turntable with SME/Shure V15III, feeding some 6ft tall, Tannoy monitors he'd rescued from a studio. Carl was suitably impressed and I being young and impressionable bought the records, hoping I would be as impressed. I was.
