Mark Stainton's shop in Keswick yielded some ECM-label interest.
Grabbed a selection, ( Abercrombie/Towner, Colin Walcott and David Darling ) . All sounded really good on the preview radiogram ( + headphones ) . I will report back more once I get the proper system playing ...
He has a special section in the racks for ECM now.

I have a great soft spot for Terje Rypdal who was on ECM and they seem to have had some other great artists on there.

Of the three, I like the David Darling 'Journal October' best so far. Cello is really well recorded and some very imaginative and strong playing with a few other instruments accompanying at times. First track is really challenging and relentless though !

Seemed like a bargain, couldn't refuse :

Was just reminded of this album by watching a documentary about Zappa's 'Straight' label.

Decals !

Under the current international climate and local (human frailty) issues, I feel the only sane path is to buy classic vinyl.
Again, considering the typical Popsike price of this, it looks like a bargain.

Wasn't that about the time of Weasels ripped my flesh? Never did hear it though.

It even had a merrycan TV advert made to promote it. I've no idea why it wasn't a best-seller....

It's really top-notch isn't it ?
Decals is very similar in style and quality to Trout Mask. Lots of discord and angular difficult stuff. Some tracks are great - Petrified Forest is one of my faves.
Mark Boston said the bass part on 'Doctor Dark' was maybe the hardest thing he ever did - he can't remember all of it or understand how he played it, now ( when interviewed ) .
I have it on re-issue LP. Not sure if it's on CD - maybe now - wasn't for a long time.

brings a tear!

For a moment I wanted to go back to those times with that frame of mind with those friends who'd sit around and discuss the meaning...and then hours later discover that it didn't matter....

ah, nostalgia

Poss of extra interest, from watching the doc about Straight Records, the GTO's ( look them up ) actually wrote a track for their album specifically about he shoes Beefheart wore in that promo film - check 'em out when he tips over the bowl of porridge !

Tis first I knew there was a Mobile Fidelity version of Ziggy Stardust...
In very nice condition, bit expensive but I got a relatively good price vs going rate.
+ More Tony McP - always worth having.

Cat Stevens - foreigner.
Haven't listened to it yet as I have the mother of all headaches to go with a nasty virus....
Me, the missus and daughter were supposed to be going to see Australian pink floyd tonight at Sheffield city hall, thats not happening. My mother in law who had been drafted in to babysit is going with the missus and daughter instead of me.....
Im stuck with sons 1 and 2 who are LOUD at the best of times.
Not shaping up to be a very enjoyable night. For me at least.......
