Got my eye on an MC cart, it runs 0.28mV, just want to make sure my Phono stage has enough gain for it?
My phono stage (One of Alan "Firebottle's" new Firebottle Plus MM/MC boxes has the following numbers on the spec sheet.
MC Input Impedance 100ohm, 1.1 nF
Gain = 57dB @ 1KHz
Output impedance: <150ohms. Minimum recommended load 5K ohm.
Local Glasgow hifi dealer (who knows the cart well) says with 57dB gain theres no problem. Just wanted to bounce it off you fella's too.
Thanks.
Whens the next Owsters btw, have a perspex fishtank for Mark Islandpink.

Depends if you run a pre-amp with gain .
I don't, and my phono has something like 70dB or 72dB gain for MC ( that includes the step-ups ) which gets me straight into a 2-stage power amp .
If you have a pre-amp with at least 5x voltage gain then all will be well .
Next Owston : November .
Looking forward to a dust-free turntable
