You can make a marginal improvement by bending flat the tag that locates the fixed end of the spring. Sometimes it doesn't take much...

Ah-hah! The rare and elusive Linn Stik. A snip at £1499.99.

I ended up with a piece of cotton nailed to the wall with a loop on the end. The loop used to slip around the tiny black widget that the lid sits on when its in the down position....

pain in the arras Linn lids, once the spring has lost it's mojo its time to get a new deck, preferably an idler by the sound of it.....

It's a balanced thing. Maybe you only need to replace one hinge. At a tenner, I'd say that is reasonable. You obviously have lived too long in Scotland and the culture is affecting you

Trouble is, there will be an upgrade in a couple of months and that'll be another £1749.99.

The Stik will remain the same, but there will be a new Bark to wrap around it.

It serious, I might have to spend some money

On one side the spring, as you can just about see, has bust through the plastic shell.

The other one seems OK, however, if it has any mojo left, as Ed calls it, is unknown, its a bit hard to test one side on its own.

Apparently its a common problem.... :(

I've always found that playing records with the lid down or even on the deck introduces vibration back into the system.

Why not play records with the lid off ?

It's cheap, and it might improve the sound of the venerable big black CD thingies

Well, I do agree, Chris, but I'm worried the lid will be left on the floor or balanced somewhere it shouldn't and then get broken or cracked.

We're not talking Sondek here but a lowly Basik, so the cost of a new lid really adds up in comparison to the worth of the deck.

Found this.

I tried the same trick with an old drill bit and now the lid now stays up, looks bug ugly tho'

The other one is on its way out so its live with the temporary fix or buy two new hinges.
