#1 EAC beginner question

So, behind the scenes Nick and Dave have a major project on the go, which is to bring me into the 21st century.
I shall call myself '21st Century .... Man' !

So, I've got this EAC program installed and on Saturday with Nick's help I got a CD successfully copied and lodged into a folder I made, called C:\Music.

I'm just going through the same procedure now with 'My Life in the Bush of Ghosts' and I'm stuck just at the very end bit.
I have the CD all read ( FLAC ) and have used 'Get CD information from > Remote metadata provider' , so all the track titles are there, and the album cover pic is on the right-hand side .
So, I'm sort-of imaging there would be a big button marked 'Finalise' or 'Save' to use now ?
At the moment if I look in the C:\Music folder, it's got a folder called 'Unknown artist' and then 'Unknown title' , then in there a list of untitled tracks.
How do I finish the job, ie. get all the data to go into this folder properly ?

Ahh, I suspect you have got the CD data AFTER you have ripped the CD. So when It did the copy it didnt have the data, now it does, but its too late. Do the copy process again now, and then remove the entry from the unwanted folder.

Welcome to the 21st Century Mark!

So what are you going to do with the FLAC files that you've ripped?

I have trouble with EAC.

Some years ago, Chris (Stratmangler) did me a set of written instructions (with diagrams) and only by referring to them do I complete the process.

They are rather worn and dog eared now, so another set would be nice. :)

It's not the most user friendly, dbpoweramp is dead easy to use by comparison.

Steve, give Roon and Tidal a go- free trial periods. Best I've heard digital. Will import your Itunes library no problem.

Was only joking Ali, about iTunes.
I've thought a lot about Roon and Tidal, and having 150Mb broadband, they ought to be a no-brainer really.
Cost is the sticking point at the moment.

Nowt wrong with Itunes Steve. :D

Yes they do cost, but worth it IMO. You can give them a go for free.

One thing I do like is Roon keeps a track played history, so you can go through and see where your musical mood took you last weekend or whenever you last used it, even back to the first time you used it. Good for playing your favourites, I find I use it a lot.

Not sure if this is truly in the vain of the OP but.....

In 2005 when I started to digitise I started with EAC. Accepting everybodies word that it was the best thing since sliced wotnot I ripped a good few discs. I started to lose the will to live when it came to the errors though. I looked around and found this product:

https://www.poikosoft.com/

I got the free demo and was so impressed that I bought it within the month demo period. I haven't looked back..I find it ten times quicker than EAC, ten times easier to use...and it does all the conversions under the sun, which is a bonus for the studio setup....thoroughly recommend anyone to try it.....I haven't spotted any difference between rips done on EASY-CD and EAC.

dbPoweramp would get my vote too, so much simpler and results every bit as good...

Have you tried JPlay Ali, you can drive it via Roon.

Yes, used it for a few years. Don't see the need for it now that Roon can do all the organising of my files tbh.

Play them through the DAC :D
No but seriously...
Nick has hatched a plan with Dave's encouragement, I believe. Idea is to feed files from my PC or laptop WiFi via a (Rasp)Pi into the Longdog DAC.
The two main things for me are -
1. getting some cool stuff from Nick and Dave via Dropbox
2. Getting some 24-bit stuff to play, so I can really here what the DAC can do.

Currently we're still short of getting it all working despite a fair bit of email and two phone conversations during the weekend !
