I think we all know by now what this section is for.

I think so - there's a lot to change.

As the motherboard has only 1 PWM (4-pin) fan connector, and that's for the CPU fan, I can't use the remaining 3-pin connectors otherwise the case fans will run at full speed and be very noisy...

So I bought a really nice cunning board from eBay - it has an ST F3 micro on it and does proper PWM control for up to 3 4-pin fans complete with thermistor and buzzer (alarm for stalled fans). I'm using two 80mm case fans (the second is normally optional) so each fan runs at a low speed, thus reducing noise even further. I even got some very short SATA3 cables that were supposed to be red but in real life seem to be the same dodgy pink & translucency as a condom...

For various reasons, I'm probably going with shielded spade connectors after all - there is not a lot of space for air movement - CPU, GPU, PSU & two case fans - 5 fans trying to move air in a box the size of a small pizza. Cosi fan tutte...

You can just see the PWM fan controller board under test with the thermistor poking out - that drives the two super-quiet fans on the far side. Went for the left handed IEC connector in the end as couldn't get spade terminals to fit safely on the PSU socket, but did use them on the back of the mains filter. Windows 10, 64-bit.

New CPU (i5-760), graphics card (Radeon R7, ultra-low profile), 8Gb RAM (max the tiny motherboard will take - 2x4Gb), PSU (270W now), SSD (Crucial MX200 500Gb) & mains filter. All unneeded PSU connectors & cables removed to save space.

Old PSU with new (smaller, more powerful) one in foreground - only a trick of perspective makes it look larger!
