I have a technics slp1200 which i love.
It sounds pretty good, but thats no reason not to try and improve.
I had it open a while back, its pretty tightly packed inside!
Dont seem to be able to find a schematic yet though.
It has a little diagram on it that suggests it uses 2 dac chips and 2 output stages.
Ill open it again soon and investigate.
I am thinking of adding a digital out so i can try external dacs and maybe valve output stages.
How hard should it be, in theory, to add a digital out? Just a case of tapping off from the right legs of the dac chip?
Im a bit clueless with digital stuff.
I have thought of just replacing it but i really like the interface of this technics, easy to use, well layed out and very quick navigation so i think any future digital disc experimenting would be best if i use the 1200 as a transport at least.

Why not buy a cheap CD player at a car boot sale and practice on that first ?

I suppose you could download another CD schematic that has a digital out already and get an idea on the wiring take of points from that if it does come of the dac or not

It's usually just a matter of finding the first component after the DAC output.
This is normally a resistor.
Take the signal from the resistor leg. This is easily reversible.
I wouldn't solder to the DAC pins unless there was no other option.
With some players you may have to isolate the existing output stage as well.

Much to learn there is.

Is think about adding a digital out al not to be confused with a buffer out I believe a valve buffer would come off the resistor from the dac but adding a digital out may be a bit more complicated i haven't yet seen anyone add a digital out to date

Oh i beg your pardon. My mistake.
Yes of course, you need to find the digi signal before the dac.
The manual should help. No harm in trying.
If there is a receiver chip before the dac.....well thats a good place to start.
Of course its not always possible to do it.
I managed it on two players and i'm fairly clueless.
