#1 cartridge wanted

Post by cressy »

anyone got a cartridge they would be willing to part with at all?
I'm after something to go on the JVC i've just got and I'm now out of spares.
I was going to use a spare Nagaoka MP11 but looking at the stylus abit closer it appears to be buggered so that's out. I then looked at a shure m44 and that has a bent canteliever. i did have an adc that i was given but i cant find it anywhere............

I've decided to keep the JVC as she who must be obeyed has said that she would use it as its automatic and the JBE is not. And apparently she dare not touch it. So the plan is to run both of them, and it will mean i can a-b demo between different decks. It would have been very useful to do this when a customer came to see me at the weekend

Ideally an mc, as this can go into the mc input on the phono stage. The ortofon mc10 i use on the JBE uses its own head amp into the mm input as its output is too low for the mc input. so all i would then need to do is hit the button on the back of the phono stage to switch between to 2 decks.

budget can go up to around the 150 mark

cheers ant

Got One sorted, I went in the end for a new audio technica at-f7 mc
Selected it because according to the hifi world review it tracks extremely well and tracked all their test record tracks, and is pretty much flat all the way up.
I wanted something that really tracks well and managed to get a really good deal on it to boot

Bollocks. It arrived this morning with a bent cantilever. Supposed to be new.
So it is going back. On the plus side, the company were good about it, no messing around. I didnt even put it on the deck as it was obvious as soon as I took it out of the box.
So back to square one.
Anyone got something?

It's a bummer when that happens. :(

Are they paying for the return postage ?

Hi Ant, As you seem to be constantly after cartridges, I can offer you the cartridge that came with the Lenco I bought recently and we have talked about. I have no idea if it works or is any good. It is a basic Goldring MM, possibly a G800. No charge. It's yours if you can use it.

Thats another nice cartridge Greg, it sounds on the lines of the shure m44 , in my view many of these older mms are much more musical than much (or all) of the modern cartridges i have tried.. i was surprised by mine
The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

Well.
I tried the hifi shops, i called a couple in the area to get a couple of opinions, suggestions, abit of advice.
And got absolutely nowhere. None apart from one seemed remotely interested, and one tried to sell me a new deck as soon as I mentioned the jvc.......
A waste of time. Seems that the majority were only interested in the big ticket items and a lowly cart wasn't really worth the time.
Id bet if I'd called and said "do you have an lp12 for sale" I would have got a completely different response.

So after being thoroughly frustrated i thought sod it, and got on the phone to mantra audio. and had a conversation with the lady there who knows her stuff and ordered another audio technica at-f7 for 200 quid. I shall be back to them for a couple of stylii for the 2 shure m44c bodies I have and for the m55 body I didnt know I had. And for one for the m97xe mi dad had on his lenco. Shame to let it languish in a box....

Should have just called them in the first place.

Shan't bother with the hifi shops next time.......
