#1 Eveready type N portable radio

Post by little eddy »

Not necessarily for sale but is there anyone who might be interested in this?

No batteries and has not been checked out but maybe an interesting project for someone.

All I could find on the 'net was here where it is probably around 1950/51 as the schematics look the same: http://www.historywebsite.co.uk/Museum/ ... rReady.htm

Looks like one my Dad had when I were a nipper.

From memory the top plate on his was blue.

There were a range of these made - portables were a real fun thing... I have one of these somewhere, but not in great condition.

The valve line up is pretty standard for the period (1951) - released in 1940, the DK91, DF91, DAF91, DL92 (all still available - actually licensed copied of the RCA 1R5,1T4,1S5, & 1S4/3S4) - they were mass-produced and tend to fetch around the £10 - £15 mark when I see them at auction - they also crop up at AudioJumble (next in a couple of weeks), BVWS events (e.g. last Sunday) and at the NVCF (National Vintage Collectors' Fair - next is May 15th).

Nice radio, but unfortunately not the prettiest and not rare, so prices reflect that. I like the little 1955 Roberts R55/R66 (released in 1953, using DK96,DF96,DAF96 & DL96) - three of those around the house... even they only fetch around £30 in good condition.
