The main capacitor bank looks alright to me.

Is that transformer big enough :D :D :D :?: :D :D :D

I love old solid state amps - great find (dates from 1969). I got a Perreaux 2150B in a similar way from a friend who was about to bin it...

A bit of major re-capping will probably be required - good fun!

Hope the enclosed are useful (if you don't have them, or better, already)

I think he bought one

Loved it, and saved up for another:

Oddly the one with more ageing going by looks is the more recent one built by June. But there is so little in it.

Great Nick.

Output impedance 0.2 ohm in series with 10,000 µF

somebody please tell me I am not listening to a capacitor coupled output stage to the tune of 10,000 µF electrolytic.

Please please NO! it's so wrong!

your guess is as good as mine. The little circuit on the side.

answers on a postcard?

looking at the rest those blue caps look quality and in good condition.

Those brown resistors? I am sure they are Allen Bradbury's.

In which case, they are sorted, as long as they are in tolerance today, those are great sounding resistors.

Anyway I know from the sound I hear this Sugden feller was not about making a reasonably good sound out of as cheap a component as he could source like so many, and hiding their cheapness with feedback.

No you don't buy transformers that big in 1968 for a cheap hoodwink the masses project.

What is the number on the diode ?

Its a 1N5401 (100V, 3A) - at least it should be.

Just noticed that the component list I had doesn't quite match the schematic (though its close). I suspect the component list may be for a later update...

That looks like the input buffer from the left hand end of the schematic - the give-away is the screened coax connections...

1N5401 another number on it 7645

Must admit the one on the right next to the Alen Bradly looks scary darkened.

So Max RMS voltage 70 Max PRV 100v 3a Schottky anyone? Without having to sell my PX4's to purchase?

OK not used to this.

What about 10 of SB100 5A Schottky for £5 London source on eBay?

Would need two packs.

1976, 45th week - its a date code.

Why not just replace them with ... 1N5401s? They're very cheap...

Oh, so I could build me a Voltage follower?

Can't believe it sounds so good without a single valve. my world is upside down.

Shall i build a CF buffer instead?

You are a star with a reasonably priced car. How great it is to have the worlds authority on Nixie tubes in our midst.
