No need to apologise, there are a few of us in Kent/ Essex.
Essex is not in the south.
The civilised part of the country starts on the south coast and ends in the north at the river Tamesis.
Beyond that there be beasties...
Mind you, when I say "civilised", there are always exceptions, in this case that would be Dartford

Anything above Watford gap motorway services is North, therefore anything below must be South.
Actually, as I'm North Essex / Suffolk border I must be an East Anglian.
