Neskor,
Yes, a very nice collection of equipment.
How is your Bartola 4P1L preamplifier. I have read a lot of good things about these. Do you have any problems with it being microphonic?

Yes, and that is a main problem when dealing with small signals.
It will sing ziiiing if your amplifier is with 1V input sensitivity otherwise it will be OK.
I'm using that preamp right now as my headphone amp with my HD600 without any problem.

Some great equipment there. Are you driving the 300B with 4P1L in pentode mode ? If so , we should form a special club ( of 2) unless you know anyone else. It's the best combination I've tried, after more than 15 years of building SE amps.

Yes, in pentode mode.
Great transparency and 3D sound, only drawback is missing mid bass.
I would also try 10Y IT 300B with LL7903 as input transformer. That should be a killer ;)

Maybe, but what about the inductance of the IT , won't that potentially leave the low bass a bit lacking ?
I had a 3-stage Ecc40 > d.c. into > 45 ( choke-loaded ) into 300B and I didn't like it quite as much as the current amp.
What frequencies are your 'mid bass', people have different definitions ?
Interesting to talk...
What cabs for the Tannoys ?

Cabs are custom made, around 150L, bass reflex.
Before this I had a D3 in triode mode IT to 300B, but this configuration with 4P1L sounds much better.
I need to try that 10Y IT 300B and after I will decide which configuration I will keep.
Mid bass for me is probably around 100 - 300 Hz. Piano on some notes sounds thin, no full bodied.

I've had a breadboard on the go for nearly 12 years now which ended up as 26 RC 10Y IT 300BXLS. There's a thread here somewhere. Very nice. I struggled to get the IT quiet unless the PS was remote though.

But one of the 300Bs had an accident at Christmas :-(. And I much prefer GM70s anyway so not sure if I'll get back to 10Y IT 300B.

Hi Neskor, welcome

I see you have a legendary TA-F7B...consider me envious. From all reports of the SITs in general it's top of my list of 'want to have a listen'. Unfortunately they're so thin on the ground it's unlikely ever to happen. I have 1 pair of the 2sk/2sj in the bit box somewhere but never got round to using them as there didn't seem any point making 1 channel.

Thanks - interesting. That's a tricky area - certainly for most speakers.
I don't feel I have a problem there with my amp, but I'm always open to advice.
What are you using for the DHT/DHP filament supplies ?
We did a fairly long development on current-sourced filament supplies, and found you could lose tone & body in almost any part of the frequency spectrum if you didn't get the circuit or the component choice correct. You might want to read a few pages of this -
http://www.audio-talk.co.uk/phpBB3/view ... =11&t=4729
...but I wouldn't stop anyone building 10Y>IT>300B, that sounds nice.
