#1 Late night Jazz.

Post by al newall »

Can someone recommend some easy listening, sleazy sort of jazz.

Quite like Astrud Gilberto, Sade, that kind of stuff. But don't know of any more.

Don't like it when you get a two minute trumpet solo, followed by a two minute drum solo, followed by a two minute sax solo then they all join in for a bit until the solos start all over again.

Hate all that.

I would add Diana Krall to that list, though there can be the occasional solo.

You could try Astrid's Dad, Joao Gilberto, or Paul Desmond, Jim Hall, and any of the bands they've been in. All lovely stuff.

Jennifer Warnes - does she squeeze in? Famous Blue Raincoat is a nice album.

Good stuff chaps, keep it comin.

I had a quick look in a couple of biggish charity shops this morning.
Found a Sade album and
Diana Krall, One night in Paris. I should have remembered about her.

Not a bad start.

Funny how all charity shops seem to have the same unwanted CDs....
Boy bands, Janet Jackson, Spice girls and Rick Astley, to name but a few.
Suppose the reason is obvious enough.

I've got a couple of Claire Martin tracks on Linn samplers, not sure about Linn recordings though. there's something odd about them. Maybe it's me.

Jennifer Warnes Famous Blue Raincoat i've already got, because i like L.Cohen anyway.

I'll investigate Shanes recommendations. Not really charity shop fodder.

What do we know about Cassandra Wilson?
Looks like she might fit the bill. Didn't buy it cos i wasn't sure and it was a bit scratched.

Cheers.

You could try to find the LP/CD's of "Rip my still-beating heart out and dangle it before my very eyes, you bitch" by The Nomadic Krossburner Kult or even "BumWrenchScrewdriverHeadHamsterSlayerGruntGruntScream" by The Black Death Trio.

I believe they're both light Jazz recordings ;)

Heheheheheheheheh.

PS. Sorry, dunno much about 'Jazz-lite' :)

DTB.

I'll ask my daughter about them. It sounds like the sort of thing she used to play.

Kenny Burrell Midnight Blue, Art Peppers Straight Life and Miles Davis Kind Of Blue, all excellent records and worth investigating, although not strictly in accord with the OP request, still for me very accessible jazz recordings
