Just landed on this after another Gong evening.
I remember nine years ago starting an email conversation with Brian Clark ( late of this forum, Lenco and Romy's ) about how much I loved Charlie Rouse's tenor playing in combination with Monk - unfortunately Brian died just around that time, I never finished our conversation
Today ( this is the third great Youtube video I have found in 2 weeks ) I found this stellar footage from Oslo in 1966.
It finishes with 'Round midnight. This is the track that drew Pannonica Rothschild away from her rich banking family, while on holiday in Mexico - she set up an apartment in New York on her own to be part of the Jazz scene of the '50's. She then looked after many of the jazz musicians in hard times, and ended up looking after Monk in his later years, with depression, till he died.
