At Finchcocks, a private country house in our village, for a recital by Tom Poster of pieces by Beethoven, Fanny & Felix Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann and Chopin. Finchcocks used to house the National Collection of Keyboard Instruments which was actually the private collection of Richard Burnett, but the house is now a private residence.

A true "salon intime" with only maybe 60 in the audience in the hall of this magnificent grade 1 house. Poster was superb. Nothing in the world like live music.

In aid of the Orpheus Trust which helps disabled young adults become independent, partly through music. The evening was introduced by Richard Stilgo (who founded the trust) and who still looks and sounds much as he did all those years ago. A very witty and sharp guy.

Yes, makes you wonder why the BBC doesn't think it's within its remit to produce a series. Maybe there aren't enough people in the UK interested in Jazz ( LOL ) .

" The incomparable Ella" on CD.

Ella Fitzgerald. The CD case has two stickers, one from Harrods @ £9.99 and one from a charity shop @ 50p. :)

Hi, and welcome to Jazz Club.

Continuing the Jazz 625 theme; I’m currently listening to “The Sidewinder” album by Lee Morgan.
“Apart from the 10 minute boogaloo romp of the title track, featuring brilliant solos, by Morgan, saxophonist, Joe Henderson, and pianist, Barry Harris, the rest of the album is a richly satisfying hard-bop love fest of masterfully swinging, blues-based blowing”

Later in the programme it’s Ramsey Lewis with his current chart-bound sound “Wade in the Water” plus as a bonus, his equally groovy top ten smash, “The In Crowd”

Niiice ........ 8)

The British Traditional Jazz Collection - Vol 1 with Acker Bilk, Chris Barber, Monty Sunshine, Humph, George Chisholm, Ken Colyer et al.
It’s the very first music I can remember being exposed to and it’s stuck with me since. Unbeatable if you want cheering up.

There’d only be me’n Phil left in the room after a few bars of this lot at Owston!

Dicker dum dum by Des O'Connor would be more effective.

“The Skiffle Sessions” - Van Morrison, Lonnie Donegan and Chris Barber - Live in Belfast.

Barber, Donegan and Morrison serve up a load of classic skiffle tracks; mostly covers of Leadbelly songs, which had been popularised in the mid `50s by the aforementioned Donegan and Barber. Morrison adds his own acoustic guitar and takes turns with Donegan at lead singing. Dr John also pops up to tinkle the ivories on a few of the tracks.

The crowd certainly enjoy themselves and it is one of those concerts that make you wish you’d been there. Van the Man even laughs on one of the songs.

As a bonus, the live sound engineers have got it all down too; the audio quality is excellent.

The new speakers are really showing off the delicious sounds on this classic.
Seems like a nice fit to the weather today, too.
