Beths guitar teacher has just walked in while I was playing tangerine dream 'cyclone'.
After about a minute, his exact words were ' what the hell is that?'......

Maybe you should find a better teacher then?

are you suggesting that the guitar teacher is no good because he's not familiar with tangerine dream??

Yes, I was burning one of my "be illogical for a moment" tokens most other people seem to have large supplies of.

I agree that not liking TD would not be a cause to look for another teacher, that would at least imply that he had a sufficiently wide interest in music to have heard them, and then decided he didnt like them. It was his apparent lack of scope that I was questioning, not his choices.

Oddly, that fact was not conveyed by the original quote "what the hell is that?'"

My bad, t'was the voices on it that foxed him
Steve ( the guitar teacher) has a really nice approach in that he asked for a list of bands she liked the first time he came. Next time he came he started based on the list. She had the openings to everlong and buck Rogers ( the feeder song) to practice the first week, inbetween then and now she had smells like teen spirit, smoke on the water, thunderstruck, freebird and plug in baby.
She's onto stairway this week. I was immediately reminded of the sign on the guitar shop wall in waynes world.....

Yeah but no but. I saw the Tangs twice and I must say their music was ruined by that self indulgent awfulness that, cant remember his name, picked up his Les Paul custom and very capably demonstrated that a) he couldnt play the guitar and b) how a guitar was anyway a travesty of the reason why TD played the sort of music they did.

A guitar teacher who'd never heard of TD....I should have such problems, oh my!
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Saw their classic Franke Froese Baumann lineup in 1975 at Sheffield City Hall when they were on their cathedral tour.
Totally entrancing. Their set on that tour was recorded live for the Ricochet album, though nothing from the City Hall was on that album.

I saw them with the same line-up and at about the same time at Portsmouth Guildhall Steve. I went to the Guildhall three nights running, TD, Thin Lizzy & Camel. Those were the days!
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Lovely album. Particularly like this:

The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.
