What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?
#4441 Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?
I hadn't listened to this for a while but it was a good choice for my Zwift bike session last evening, I had forgotten what an excellent album it is, all good songs;
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

After watching the ZZ top film last night.. I decided I was time to go to the extreme end of the LP racks, past Zappa to this... I had forgotten how good their first few albums were, raw blues. Having seen them live a few years back at a festival, I wasn’t impressed with them live though, I would image 40 years back they were great.

I bought three or four of the early albums , not too long ago , they are very good, blues with a groove. As you say, must have been great live.

The zz top film is worth a watch.. The claim to fame is the group with the longest unchanged lineup, 50 odd years.I would imagine at a small venue the are still a very tight trio. Stadium gigs requires them to play the stuff that made them on MTV, I suppose they were too polished and not interesting when I saw them. Reminds me I need to clean the 13th floor elevator albums I bought last year but haven’t played yet.

Saw 'em again at Donnington in '85, and they'd morphed into the slick machine you describe.
I enjoyed them at Donnigngton, but that was partly because it was welcome relief from the tedium of listening to Genesis wannabees Marillion

I quite enjoyed Derek Dicks performance that year no when I saw ZZ Top last in 2012? it was so polished it was boring. I have heard though when they play the likes of south by southwest they do acoustic sets and blues numbers only. Who wants to here smart dressed man nowadays...

There's a lesson for any up and coming musos at about a minute and a half in....make sure your ear plug is working
not sure you're right about the timing though

It switches about so much it becomes difficult to follow!
Never seems to do what you expect it to do
Really enjoyed it, not sure anyone else in earshot did, there were some rather puzzled looks on faces
