Had an indulgence moment before I went home today, it was about 5pm.
I got the new record deck that Nick is helping to develop and took it down into my listening room.
Plumbed it into Nicks phono stage.
Connected to Soulution pre amp and 7 series power amp and my Maxonic speakers.
Put Cyndi Lauper - True Colors (MoFi Vinyl) on.
Astonishingly GOOD.

You can't change how people treat you or what they say about you. All you can do is change how you react to it.

That along with the slightly scary hand on the right shoulder of the second guy from the left...

I think it belongs to the girl 4th from left,,
we're sure getting some mileage out of the Swingle singers, who'd have thought it!

I was just listening to Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone and got all freaked-up and had to put on this track :
( Slip inside this house by 13th-floor elevators )
Must try to get a proper copy of this LP, instead of the reissue by 'Get Back' ( inside the sleeve) records.

Seems to be an International Artists re-issue from 1978, checking one out on EBay for a bid tomorrow. That will save me about £500. This really is a great album, about 4 or 5 superb tracks.

This morning is the start of the Christmas music bonanza.
Still using the Quad 11 monobricks.
1st up is "Christmas brass".

Started with Vaughan Williams "Lark Ascending"' Dives and Lazarus" Wasps"
Then Mozart Divertimenti direct to disc followed by Glenn Gould "Goldberg Variations"
It's not always prog rock and jazz! (Only most of the time!)

Gregory Porter - Nat "King" Cole & Me.
What can one say but WOW!
Porter's golden voice, plus breathtaking sound, full of light, shade warmth, tone and old school wide dynamic range.
Porter's production team and the orchestra have done a sterling job of emulating the Capitol stereo sound of the late 'fifties/early sixties. Full marks to them.
Nothing will surpass Cole's originals in terms of that voice but this is fabulous and Porter just oozes affection for his idol.
Take a listen to "When Love Was King" - seven minutes of spine tingling emotional and sonic gorgeousness.
The whole album is lovely.

He did a very good programme I saw the other day about singers and picked a big range of people, not technically great ones either, some of the people I like a lot - eg. Lou Reed.

Yes, I need to catch up on those.
I've only seen the first one in the series, where he talked about crooners.

I stayed up later than I intended at my mum's watching it, it was very good. I shall look out for any other episodes, then.

I am a big fan of Weather Report. Some people slate fusion and jazz rock as neither jazz nor rock.
But take away the labels and you have some brilliant inventive music.
I was listening to Billy Cobham's Spectrum last night. Great album, well recorded with some killer bass riffs and guitar.

Yep Weather Report was Weather Report and there's lots of homilies around that. Brilliant!
Billy Cobham's Spectrum is a great Favourite of mine too.
