I've been listening to some Bob Marley toones on You-tube today.

As Reggae is new to me any suggestions of other artists, or favourite songs ?

Proceed with Caution!

This former successful City Gent listened to ONE Bob Marley song.

Look what happened......

Back to Doris Day for you 'Pop's.....Quick!....... before it too late! :)

Is it reggae-tinged with vocals you like? If so the Marley album 'Legend' is a good start. It's a 'best of'. You'll (hopefully) know just about every track on it I reckon.

Beyond that, there's a wealth of subsonic fun lurking in that genre.

Sit down, lets have chat anna schmoke an' ting......... too (h)early for a Red Stripe?

I've had a very varied (and interesting) morning on You-tube. :D

It's led me lots of different ways, and now I've switched the main system on for some more "nostalgia", starting with a double LP of the Moody Blues. :)

Come on Dave. If it's Bob Marley you're talking , let's get serious and start with 'Catch a Fire' and 'Burnin' . The early band was the best . Pete Tosh and Bunny Livingston were the best backing singers EVER .

There's a really great collection of Trojan Records singles on CD , from the 'Tighten Up' collections from the early 70's . Classics like 'Blood and Fire' by Niney, and 'Here I am Baby' by Al Brown .
I keep it constantly in the car, indispensable .

I really like the roots reggae stuff from 68 to 73 , but there's quite a following for the later UK stuff like Steel Pulse .

Oh, Toots and the Maytals are great , from the early days . Get out a copy of 'The Harder they Come' on video , that's a fab piece of film .

Phil's got 'Catch a Fire.'

I reckon 'Legend' is a good starting point for someone new to ReggyRejjy.

Sure, I could send him a 15 CD box set of Ragamauffin' an Scientists classic dub platters but I'm trying to not scare him off straight away :-)

Yes I must remember that some people are scared by music - for example, people who are not Captain Beefheart fans .

I second that. I would add Buju Banton and Max Romeo.

Nice work AW .
I think I'm a Roots man at heart .
From the Trojan collection, I'm on the lookout for Al Brown ( 'Here I am Baby' ) and Niney ( and friends ) ( ' Blood and Fire' ) .
