Dave's "old Farts" retort to a thread celebrating the wonderful world of Easy Listening has given me an idea.
We'll set up the old farts corner at Owston, using the best of these gems to demonstrate our gear.
We'll soon have the room to ourselves
What never ceases to amaze me is that this music was such a huge phenomenon and that it existed alongside Hendrix et al.
I know Phil mentioned it a while ago but there was an absolutely wonderful documentary on BBC 4 some time ago covering the EL phenomenon.
Very interesting.
Even uncle Ken Kessler mentioned the documentary in HFNRR.
If it is still on iPlayer its well worth gritting your teeth and watching it
if only for Mike Flower's Gordon Tracy haircut.
The esteemed Mr Flowers uses a Lenco idler turntable so he has my respect.

Like any genre there was stuff on the outer reaches, like some I posted.
but when people like Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Tony Hatch & Jackie Trent
and other songwriters,
took elements of it and successfully crossed easy listening over into the mainstream,
we got gems such as these.
Without easy listening, these songs would never have happened.
Meltingly gorgeous; and Sacha Distel doesn't look too bad himself introducing our Pet on French TV. Why can't I look that cool

From Floppys Mums box of vinyl (so he says ) I've done Percy Faith, Botticelli and his orchestra and now on Perry Como.
Sooths the bwain cells whilst computating maths of the valve variety.

I've tons and tons of this music but can't post it all.
I've barely scratched the surface.
What about all those stars from the '50s who found a new lease of life
by embracing the genre; stars such as Frank Sinatra, (Strangers in the Night) Sammy Davis Jr, Dean Martin (Gentle on My Mind) Tony Bennett,
The list goes on and on.
Anyone else is of course entitled to post their own
fab tunes and memories of this underrated genre.
Let the sun shine in.........................

Co-incidence? Tony Bennett was on Breakfast Time this morning promoting his new album, then on Today on radio 4 the sports presenter was all tongue-tied having just met him in the lift.

Aye he's the last of the originals that's for sure.
