I have posted this before but its always worth repeating (IMHO)

Whenever an honest man discovers that he's mistaken, he will either cease to be mistaken or he will cease to be honest.

#19 Son House

Post by IslandPink »

Some of these links are good .... but this is better ;o)

Son House 'Death Letter'

By the way, 'Vigilante Man' appears on Woody Guthrie's 'Bound for Glory' which I was looking at the other day . If anyone knows of earlier recordings, I'd be interested to know .

Thanks Stevie too .
As I said before somewhere on a thread, the authentic Mississippi/Texas blues is still alive. See :

Who's going to be the first to buy some CDs from these guys ?
Could be me ... must get me Paypal into action .
Haven't been motivated about 'new' music recently except with this ...

Well I woke up this morning...

Does The RHCP 'I Could Have Lied' count as blues?

Cos it sure sounds like blues to me but it don't fit the guidelines somehow....

Some seriously good stuff in this thread, especially the older recordings

At age 18 I thought Love In Vain was a Rolling Stones song, despite me thinking I was something of a knowledgeable blues fella. I mean, come on, I knew about John Mayall and I'd seen Joanne Kelly at the Crystal Palace Hotel. So hip.

In reality, a total dufus ;)

Well, it ain't a 12 bar pattern, but I think the sentiment is the same :-).

Yeah, I'd say its got 'blues-inflections'. Ace solo too IMHO.

OK. We've done great blues guitarists, aslong as Mo doesn't mind a partial hijack.... howsabout great blues lyrics?

'Death Don't have no Mercy' is a total winner IMO as is 'Strange Fruit' natch.

I think this is awethmne.

So many great versions of it too like this one, and oh boy oh boy how perfect the horns are on this take. If I scored horns like that I'd cry.

Vigilant man was by Woody Guthrie , just checked .

Q. How many Blues enthusiasts does it take to change a light bulb ?
A. About ten - one will put in the new light bulb while the other nine sit around talking about how the original one was better .
