Yeah :)

Me and a friend both had 125's so there was always the challenge of who could make there's the quickest and the one way systems around liverpool street were the perfect proving ground

What i didnt really appreciate was how hard the course was to get on. The only other place that did my course was in berlin!

There were people from all over the world who were paying obcene amounts of money for the privilege while me and nick just played around.

I did learn alot though, mainly about sharpening woodwork tools

Last weeks concert was a tenor, but today's is a bloke playing the church organ.

I'm quite a fan of organ music so I'm looking forward to today's recital.

Perhaps it will inspire me to start playing my keyboard again ?

Yeah, good idea.

It'd be good to see you and your accompanist back out on the road again gigging...

Talking of live music's. Our little boy left for Glastonbury yesterday, he's doing Tuesday to Tuesday. I told him to look out for 'our Ali'!

This weekend we're off to see Jamiroquai at Hyde Park. When we bought the tickets we didn't realise they were only one of the support acts! Jamiroquai along with Corrine Bailey Ray and James Morrisson are supporting some old harmonica player called Stevie Wonder. 2 acts I've wanted to see for a long time come up at the same time on the same gig, Radness+.

Then we're off to see Crosby, Stills and Nash at the RAH a week after that.

Then later in July we're off to see The Small Fakers, brill tribute band. Julies a big fan of the Small Faces.

Tempted to go and see Weird Al Yankovic at the Forum, his first UK gig I think...

Loadsa vibes.

I treated myself to a "free range egg, mayo and cucumber" sandwich at the concert today, as befits my genteel nature. :)

The music was good, the first piece beautiful, and two humorous ones. The best was Nigel Ogdens (he of Radio 2 The organist entertains) march of the penguins.

Bought some custard doughnuts on the way home - SCRUMMY !!!

Did anyone else bother with the Big 4 concert last night?
I went to the local cinema to see it. Sounded pretty good once they got the subs sorted.

Norton used to make a side valve motorcycle called the "big 4". Is that what you mean ?

Nah, a few bands got together for a gig or something. Lots of people got excited about it. I could understand why people would want to see Metallica, but the others weren't that good...

The big four were: Metallica; Slayer; Megadeth and Anthrax the combined onslaught of which is likely to cause the onset of a hard to cure disease.

Metallica - El Fabbo, though have turned out a few turkeys in their time

Slayer - Reign In Blood is a classic otherwise intermittent output quality.

Megadeth - I'm surprised they are on the same tour as Metallica cos Dave Mustaine (lead Megadeth warbler and axe murderer) was once part of Metallica but fell out with them and split to form his own band. Output has ranged from sublime to absymal.

Anthrax - Beastie Boys meet Motorhead in the Bronx, see Richard Pryor perform at a comedy club and decide to perform a very noisy band with a sense of humour called Anthrax. Good fun if you like that sort of thing, I care for them not a great deal.

DTB:

I just seen what you going to see and I will comment:

James Morrison is perhaps the most boring artist to have emerged since 1953 and is a hazard to safe driving as listening to any of his works can make you doze off at the wheel.

I never did 'get' Jamiroquai. I can understand why people love 'em but they don't do a thing for me. And the lead singer is a flash git.

Stevie Wonder I love up to 'Hotter Than July' but performing live he can be a bit syrupy.

Enjoy the gig! :D

The Small Faces are an all time favourite of mine, loved 'em to pieces.

I don't like tribute bands at all, I've seen a couple and could not shake off the overwhelming feeling that something was wrong. Kinda like buying an Embassy 7" single from Woolworths instead of the real thing (and I dare say only a few will recognise that comparison).

Enjoy the gig! :D

Seriously - have fun ;)

Saw Metallica and Slayer on the same bill, Slayer Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz but Metallica were great.

I think Jay Kaye (from JamickyWhy) has all thats needed to be a great front man. A big gob, a big hat and a deep concern for the environment that doesn't curtail him driving like a loony all over the world in petrol guzzling huge great V12 cars  He's a plonker but he's (and the various line ups have) done some great fonk.

the bass part alone is so heavy you put on a stone whilst listening to this track.

big hat + prat in full-effect.

Stuart Zender (bassist) and JK fell out big time but they goove like a mofo (which is good) on this.

...and he's a skater too... no really... he is 1.18.

...Jeremy Kwee!

I rest my case M'lud

Stevie Wonder. Syrupy? getaway widja bad self...

...and... ...err.... hang on.........

I'll give you that one :D

One thing that I was made aware of at the organ recital is the "bass" quality / quantity.

Even on the lowest notes the bass can at times be "delicate", so sometimes at home what I took as lightweight bass was in fact quite accurate. :)
