#1 Made for fun during the lockdown

Post by gninnam »

Was still working but due to not being able to travel anywhere thought I'd rummage through the garage and see what I could knock together.

Found an old plinth or two, an Lenco L75 stalled project, an old pre-amp kit and a Raspberry PI and old cupboard doors - what could I do with all of this?
I know, in the '70s music centres were a big thing so let's make one......

PI with a 7 inch touch screen and pre-amp controlling module mounted (after plenty of routing):

PI works :)

Amp works (now where did I put the damn remote....)

Rummaged around to find paint in the garage and found some old tins and spray cans so mixed and matched:

The old lo-fi kit I have in the garage has an aux input so soldered some RCA sockets to the pre-amp and connected it to this and using the PI we have sounds:

And finally does it play vinyl - yep, it does (mounted a battery powered phono pre-amp in the chassis)

What next - probably dismantle as nowhere in the house to put it and on to the next project

Oh and the cat supervised the whole thing:

Excellent. It'll be a shame to dismantle it though!

That's what cats do!

I've been working from home and using Skype/teams etc. to collaborate with colleagues; generally our cat sleeps next to me but everytime I'm in a conversation she comes and sits on the laptop to check out what's going on.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Cheers Ant - was just for a bit of fun. Not good enough to sell either so will need to be 'stored'

I was initially working from home for the first 6 weeks and the cat would hang around also. Like you, when on a call he would pop in the room and start meowing......
Been back in the office for the last few weeks - so much prefer working from there!

Your Ecko is almost as old as me! I hope nobody suggests I need 'embellshing' wiith some new stuff - keep it original Ant, with your skills you could make a 'reproduction' type piece...

Spookily you have chosen the same colours as my Dansette Autochanger

Cheers Mike - love to see a pic of the Dansette (had one as a child - well shared with my brother and sister), fond memories!

So - dismantled the music centre and put away.
Found another unfinished Lenco project (must be about 5 years old if not more....)

Was designed to take larger arms (which I was working on but again never finished) such as 14 and 16 inch!!

Who know's, may have another go at finishing it off - but van work first

Shame about dismantling the music centre but I guess there's only so much space for keeping stuff! I did like the RPi and screen though and it's got me thinking about something like it - was it a touch screen or just a display?
