The Other 13E1 SE-OTL
#61 Re: The Other 13E1 SE-OTL
et voila! After some rather fiddly soldering, one uncle billy cable. The cable is to connect the transformer chassis to the amplifier chassis;
the cable consists of six twisted pairs and a ground bundled inside a braided screen, inside heatsink tubing, inside a cosmetic braided sleeve. The twisted pairs carry AC, two pairs for the B+ supplies, two pairs for the 13E1 filaments and two pairs for the 6H30pi filament supplies.
Here's the connector I'm using;
it's one of these;

Serious stuff this Ray.
Is the last smoothing cap in the power supply going in the amp chassis?
That's the usual method with a two box configuration.

No Steve, I'm just putting the various toroids in the second box; all of the power supplies are in the amp box. With the internal layout of the amp box I'm trying to keep all the AC well away from the amp circuits. I've made a lot of progress with the amp chassis this weekend, it's all coming together quite quickly now and I'll post some more pictures in a couple of days.Cressy Snr wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 3:45 pm Is the last smoothing cap in the power supply going in the amp chassis?
I'm looking at reworking the driver PCB again, including the a clone of K&K constant current sink on the PCB - interested? (the CCS can be bypased/omitted if required). I've done the CAD part of the PCB rework, just need to check it carefully before ordering some new boards.

I am doing it Phil, the third cap is in the amp chassis close to the amp circuits, it just that the first and second caps, the chokes and the rectifier are also in the amp chassis too.pre65 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 10:58 pmWorth doing Ray.Cressy Snr wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 3:45 pm Serious stuff this Ray.

Yes
So it's just the transformers/rectifier off board then.

Not even the rectifiers, just the toroids (oh, and the B+ delay circuit and probably one of Nick's mains DC blocker boards).Cressy Snr wrote: ↑Mon Feb 25, 2019 8:10 amYes

I'll be checking the PCB this week so hold off assembling your driver board for a few days. Also, the new PCB may be slightly larger (90mm x 100mm) and I made need to amend the mounting hole positions to fit everything on the board so you may want to delay drilling your chassis plate too.

Shitty weather down here today so no bike ride distractions to difuse work on the amp. This morning I've completed reworking the driver stage PCB so it now has the CCS onboard. I've checked it out and it all looks fine but following the old adage about measuring twice and cutting once, I'm going to do some more work on the chassis now and then do a final check before ordering the new PCBs this evening.

Coming together nicely now...
All ready for the driver stage PCBs - better get them ordered!

Revised input/driver stage PCBs have been ordered - I need something to fill up the space at the front of the chassis!
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Revised input/driver stage PCBs have shipped from China; hopefully they wont take to long to arrive.
In the meantime I've started work on the power supply chassis. Three toroids, one of Nick's DC blocker boards and a small board to delay the switch on of B+ to be accomodated.

Good progress on the power supply chassis today, layout sorted, metalwork drilled and assembly underway...
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

I like the resin filled toroids with holes, did they come like that?
