Hi Simon,
I used U-POL etch primer, in the large can. I get this from Bullseye. Top coats and lacquers are usually Hy-Cote car paints, again from Bullseye. The rose gold I use is Rustoleum, which I got from B&Q.

Managed to make two big holes in the top plate for the power valves.
I'll file the edges smooth tomorrow.
Should, given a following wind, have all the power supplies and valve heater transformers mounted by the end of Sunday.

Forecast looks like there will be plenty of wind available tomorrow so you just need to orient yourself,

Getting there:
Image
Aluminium top plate has been sprayed with an "Antique White" acrylic finish after etch priming.
The plate holding the switchgear and mains indicator lamp, has also had the antique white treatment, over the rose gold metallic it was originally.
The antique white goes nicely with the volume controls, selector switch and the walnut surround.

Indeed!

Have fitted all the iron and caps today. The 1KVA toroid on the top of the deck was a complete PITA due to its size, weight and the need for three limbs to hold transformer, top washer, bottom rubber discs, bolt, nut and spanner, whilst all the while the chassis was trying to fall over.

Circuit boards have arrived safely. Once again thanks Ray. :)

At the moment, the mains wiring is being sorted, hopefully we'll have heaters tomorrow.
I populated the original boards weeks ago, so these will be going in, in the first instance. I need to get this thing running, as it is now well behind schedule and is eating into the time I need to spend on the house refurbishment. SWMBO is getting restless
